Horse of the Year MINESHAFT (A.P. Indy), one of Lane’s End’s top young sires,
is recovering from colic surgery performed Thursday evening at Rood & Riddle
Equine Hospital near Lexington, Kentucky.
His surgery was for a volvulus, a bowel obstruction; however, he suffered no
blood loss to his intestine. He was bright and alert Friday and is expected to
make a full recovery.
“We are pleased with how Mineshaft is progressing,” Will Farish said, “and
would hope that he will return to service during the month of April. Any breeder
needing to discuss their breeding plans can call Lane’s End at any time.”
A son of Lane’s End’s two-time leading sire A.P. Indy, Mineshaft was voted
Horse of the Year and champion older male for 2003. He ranked as last year’s
leading fourth-crop sire by earnings and by number of stakes winners. His book
is full for this year.
Mineshaft’s current runners include Kentucky Derby (G1) hopeful Dialed In,
the winner of the Holy Bull S. (G3) who is expected to contest the April 3
Florida Derby (G1); impressive maiden winner Nehro, who makes his stakes debut
in Saturday’s Louisiana Derby (G2); and Grade 2 romper and multiple Grade
1-placed Fly Down, who is entered in Saturday’s Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1).
