Doncaster Bloodstock Sales’s St Leger Festival Sale got underway Wednesday,
with the average of £8,903 down by 31
percent on its 2008 equivalent. The Sales Company’s Managing Director Henry
Beeby drew on the positive of the amount of yearlings sold when commenting.
“We are perfectly content with the trade that we have experienced tonight,”
he said. “In the current economic climate, vendors have demonstrated a pragmatic
approach that has resulted in a 75 percent clearance rate, which is probably the
most important statistic at present.”
Late in the session, trainer Kevin Ryan outbid Richard Hannon Jr. and Ross
Doyle to purchase Mocklershill’s Hip No. 80, a Haafhd half-brother to dual
stakes winner Party Boss (Silver Patriarch) for £36,000.
Agent Bobby O’Ryan, who bought the session-topper 12 months ago, paid
£25,000 for Hip 29, Cloverdale Bloodstock’s
colt from the first crop of Sleeping Indian, whose dam is a sister to the
stakes-placed Salcombe (GB) (Elmaamul).
Kern Lillingston were responsible for the purchase of the top-priced filly
after a bid of £20,000 was enough to secure
Hip 78, a daughter of Intikhab whose page includes the Group/Grade 3 winners Bin
Rosie (GB) (Distant Relative) and Generous Rosi (GB) (Generous).
Selling continues Thursday. Full results can be found at dbsauctions.com.
