Churchill Downs opens

Last updated: 10/28/05 4:54 PM

The 21-day Churchill Downs Fall Meet begins Sunday and continues through
November 26. Mondays and Tuesdays will be dark, with Election Day, November 8,
the lone exception. Regular post time is 12:40 p.m. (ET).

The stakes schedule, worth more than $2.25 million, begins with the
opening-day $100,000 Ack Ack H. (G3). The $300,000 Falls City H. (G2) on
Thanksgiving Day and $500,000 Clark H. (G2) on the following day are the
highlights of the season. The $200,000 Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2) for
two-year-olds, and the $200,000 Golden Rod S. (G2) for two-year-old fillies,
will be run on closing day.

The roster of top trainers includes Todd Pletcher, D. Wayne Lukas, Bill Mott,
Bobby Frankel and Nick Zito.

The jockey colony will be headed by Rafael Bejarano, Gary Stevens, Mike Smith
and Robby Albarado.

The Louisville track has changed its rules for Pick 6 wagers in the event
races are moved from the turf to the main track. If a single race is moved from
turf to dirt, that race becomes an “all win” race. If two or more races are
moved from the grass to the dirt, all of those races are “all win” events — but
ticket holders that correctly select the winners of the four remaining races
will be eligible only for their share of the money wagered on the Pick 6 that
day. Any carryover in the Pick 6 pool entering that day’s wagering would be
carried over to the next racing day.
