Power Alert (Alert) blasted out of the gate, proceeded to set a course record
and gained a measure of revenge in just a shade over 55 seconds at Churchill
Downs on Friday in the $150,000
Twin Spires Turf Sprint (G3).

A gray Australian-bred gelding, Power Alert out broke his nine rivals from
post 8, set splits of :21 2/5 and :43 3/5, and safely held a late surge from
Undrafted (Purim) to win by three parts of a length under Julien Leparoux in a
time of :55.17, which beat the previous standard of :55.45 set by Silver Timber
in the 2010 Twin Spires Turf Sprint.

Owned by James Covello, AJ Suited Racing Stable and trainer Brian Lynch,
Power Alert paid $12.40 as the 5-1 fifth choice.

Undrafted finished three-quarters of a length ahead of Something Extra
(Indian Charlie), who was followed by 7-2 favorite Good Deed (Broken Vow),
Buster Rose (Pioneering), Channel Marker (Purim), Forest Elf (Kitten’s Joy),
Heitai (Fusaichi Pegasus), Positive Side (Johar), and Jasizzle (Jazil). Berlino
Di Tiger (Tiger Heart) and Zee Bros (Brother Derek) were scratched.

Last month, Power Alert finished fourth as the 5-2 favorite in the Shakertown
(G3) at Keeneland, a race won by Something Extra with Undrafted in third.

“He was on his game today. He got the track he likes today,” Lynch said. “I
thought it would be easier on him in the Shakertown on the soft turf at
Keeneland last time, but he turned it around today. He was sharp this week. We
trained him (at Keeneland) this week and he was very sharp.

“The way the track was playing today, I thought he’d have to be close (to the
lead). We have the (Evangeline Downs Turf Sprint on May 30) for $300,000 or wait
until the Belmont race for $300,000 on Belmont Day (Jaipur [G3]) at six furlongs
on the turf.”

The Shakertown has been the only loss Power Alert has incurred in four U.S.
starts. He won his stateside debut against allowance company at Gulfstream on
December 21, and then took the $75,000 Silks Run over the same course March 14.
Both races were at five furlongs on the turf.

Previously a handicap performer at the country tracks of Australia, the five
year-old has now earned $262,094 from a line of 17-7-2-1.

He was bred by J. Power and was produced by the mare Gold Locket (Lochrae).
