Bet down to 4-5 favoritism following an eye-catching maiden win, He’s Comin
in Hot (Early Flyer) continued to smoke his rivals in Saturday’s $100,000

Bashford Manor (G3)
at Churchill Downs. The Bret Calhoun-trained gelding
sped to the lead after the break and turned back a challenge from runner-up Show
Bound (Warrior’s Reward) in upper stretch before accelerating away to a
commanding 3 3/4-length decision.

“He broke very sharp just like he did last time,” Calhoun said. “He got his
feet out under him very well in the first few jumps and was able to clear and
not take early pressure.

“That was my main concern with the one-hole. But I thought he was the kind of
horse that could overcome it but you’ve got to have gate speed. He got a
comfortable lead.”

Owned by Douglas Scharbauer, the Texas-bred established splits in :22 and :46
1/5 en route to completing six furlongs in 1:10 4/5 with Jamie Theriot.

Show Bound easily held second by 3 3/4 lengths over Patrick Rocks (Awesome
Courage) in third. It was another 4 1/4-length gap to Dothat Dance (Louis
Quatorze), who was followed under the wire by Sapphire Storm (Primal Storm),
Roman’s Chance (Sun King) and Shoot Craps (Trappe Shot). Justanothermorgan (Zavata)
was withdrawn.

“He broke sharp and you know Robby (Albarado on Sapphire Storm) was there and
then all of a sudden he disappeared,” Theirot said. “He was just in a high
cruising speed. Down the backside he had his ears pricked. It was easy and I
said, ‘It’s over with.'”

He’s Comin in Hot did not make the early lead in his first two starts,
finishing third at Keeneland in his debut before a runner-up at Churchill Downs
on May 8. He was exiting a 4 1/2-length, wire-to-wire tally over maiden special
weight foes under the Twin Spires on June 12 and has now earned $95,510 from
four starts.

Bred by Valor Farm Inc., He’s Comin in Hot is out of the stakes-winning
Shocktime (Langfuhr).
