Untapable out of Distaff; Golden Horn makes first appearance
on Keeneland training track

Untapable (Tapit) will not be able to defend her title in Friday’s $2 million
Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) due to a fever
, trainer Steve Asmussen reported
Tuesday morning. The Eclipse Award-winning champion 3-year-old filly worked a
half-mile Monday before receiving post 11 in the 1 1/8-mile race.

Her defection allows Peace and War (War Front) to draw into the 14-horse
Distaff field from the also-eligibles list.

In other Breeders’ Cup news, Triple Crown winner American Pharoah
(Pioneerof the Nile) arrived from Southern California late Tuesday afternoon.

The final contingent of European Breeders’ Cup horses, including eight from
trainer Aidan O’Brien and the David Wachman-trained Legatissimo (Danehill
Dancer), the 8-5 morning line favorite in the Filly & Mare Turf (G1), arrived on
the grounds at Keeneland on Monday evening and are expected to clear quarantine
and make their first trip to the track on Thursday morning.

All the other European contenders, including Prix de l’Ardc de Triomphe (G1)
winner and Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1) favorite Golden Horn (Cape Cross), exercised
for the first time Tuesday morning
, with most utilizing the synthetic
training track given the wet conditions.

In non-Breeders’ Cup-related news,
Churchill Downs has drawn their opening
day card for Sunday
, the “Stars of Tomorrow I” program consisting of races
exclusively for two-year-olds.
