Sanford Goldfarb, Joe Torre and Michael Dubb’s SIS CITY (Slew City Slew)
easily defeated a field of six in Saturday’s $150,000
Davona Dale S. (G2) at
Gulfstream. Breaking well from the gate, she set the pace in the 1
1/8-mile contest, posting fractions of :23 2/5, :47 4/5, 1:12 2/5 and 1:37 4/5
before stopping the clock in 1:50 1/5.
Trained by Richard Dutrow and ridden by John Velazquez, the three-year-old filly
was never threatened, eventually drawing off in the stretch to post the 16-length
win.
Sent off the even-money favorite, Sis City returned $4, $2.40 and
$2.10 to her backers. In the Gold (Golden Missile) crossed the line next, paying
$2.80 and $2.40 at 5-2 while ending the $4.50 exacta ($1). Jill Robin L (Precocity) closed for third,
another 1 1/4 lengths back, and gave $2.60 at 17-1 while finishing the $20.50 trifecta ($1). Mocita
(Boundary) brought up the rear of the 2-3-7-1, $62.50 superfecta ($1) and was followed by
Dance Away Capote (Capote) and Leona’s Knight (Suave Prospect). Kristen Kristen
(Storm Boot) was withdrawn.
Sis City earned her second graded score here after taking the Demoiselle S.
(G2) to end her juvenile campaign. The bay miss now totes a record of
8-4-0-2, including a win in the Mongo Queen S. and a third in the Frizette S.
(G1) from last year, and $372,980 in earnings. She also finished a good fourth
in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). Bred in Kentucky by Heiligbrodt Racing Stable,
she is the first registered foal out of Smart Sis
(Beau Genius).
