A field of eight has been entered in Saturday’s $150,000 San Carlos H. (G2)
at Santa Anita, and MASS MEDIA (Touch Gold) has been assigned the top weight of
117 pounds. The four-year-old made his 2005 bow in the San Fernando Breeders’
Cup S. (G2) in mid-January, finishing second by just a half-length. Last season,
the Bobby Frankel-trained dark bay captured the Sport Page H. (G3) and Fly So
Free S. in New York.
One of Mass Media’s main rivals will be CHOCTAW NATION (Louis Quatorze), who
captured five of his six starts last year, including the San Diego H. (G2). The
Jeff Mullins charge was claimed out of his maiden debut for $40,000 and has
finished off the board only once, that coming as a fourth in his final start as
a four-year-old in the Pacific Classic (G1).
The complete field for the seven-furlong San Carlos, with riders and weights,
is HASTY KRIS (Kissin Kris), Rene Douglas, 115; Choctaw Nation, Victor Espinoza,
116; SINISTER G (Matty G), Alex Solis, 113; Mass Media, Pat Valenzuela; PERFECT
MOON (Malibu Moon), Corey Nakatani, 115; HARVARD AVENUE (You and I), Tyler Baze,
115; DEL MAR SHOW (Theatrical [Ire]), Jon Court, 114; and OCEANUS (Brz) (Rainbow
Corner [GB]), Omar Berrio, 113.
