Keeneland opens the 2011 auction season on Monday with its January Horses of
All Ages Sale. A total of 1,827 horses has been cataloged for the five-day auction,
which runs through Friday. Sessions begin daily at 10 a.m. (EST).

In conjunction with the sale, Keeneland is unveiling a new
web-based portfolio management system aimed at providing its sales clients with
the ability to manage nearly every aspect of the sale process online.

The new Keeneland Portfolio will allow sale clients to access and manage
their account information online as well as more easily research and track
horses of interest. Features of the Portfolio include:

  • Create “short lists” of horses for each sale by selecting horses from
within a catalog that fit specific criteria.
  • Add a “grade” and comments for individual horses on a short list.
  • Set text alerts for when the horse receives a catalog update, a vet
comment, when it is about to enter the ring and when it is sold.
  • Export and download queries in PDF or CSV.
  • Review and query historical sales information.

  • For video tutorials on using the Keeneland Portfolio, visit the “How
    To” playlist on Keeneland’s
    YouTube
    channel
    .

The January Sale has increasingly established itself as a strong market for
quality racing and broodmare prospects, as well as ‘short’ yearlings (weanlings
who officially turned a year old on January 1).

Among the 2010 Grade 1 stakes winners sold as yearlings in January are
Travers winner Afleet Express, Triple Bend H. hero E Z’s Gentleman (Yankee
Gentleman) and Smiling Tiger (Hold That Tiger), victor of the Bing Crosby S. and
Ancient Title S. Other recent graduates of the January Sale include Grade 2
scorers Cat by the Tale (Tale of the Cat) (San Gorgonio) and Dancinginherdreams
(Tapit) (Pocahontas) as well as Grade 3 vixen Touching Beauty (Tapit) (Comely).

“The January Sale is well-known as a market for stakes-winning broodmare
prospects,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “And it is
also proving to be a solid market for yearlings, offering a broad representation
for pinhookers and end-users alike, as well as those interested in horses of
    racing age or stallion prospects.”

Broodmares covered by 184 different stallions, among them such sought-after
sires as Afleet Alex, Arch, Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, Candy Ride (Arg), Curlin,
Empire Maker, Indian Charlie, Malibu Moon, More Than Ready, Mr. Greeley,
Speightstown, Street Cry (Ire), Tapit, Tiznow and Unbridled’s Song, are
    cataloged.

Yearlings representing 196 prominent stallions, including Afleet Alex, Arch,
Bernardini, Bluegrass Cat, Distorted Humor, Elusive Quality, Giant’s Causeway,
Indian Charlie, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Mr. Greeley,
Speightstown, Tale of the Cat, Tapit, Tiznow and Unbridled’s Song, also have
    been consigned.

Horsemen and fans can follow the sale via live streaming on Keeneland’s

coupled with updates and video links on Facebook and Twitter. A PDF version of
the January Sale catalog is available on Keeneland’s website.
