Bwana Charlie drills five furlongs

Amsterdam S. (G2) winner BWANA CHARLIE (Indian
Charlie), prepping for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), drilled five
furlongs in a bullet :59 2/5 over a fast track at Lone Star Park on
Tuesday. The move was easily the fastest of 14 works at the distance.

Darren Fleming, assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen, said he caught
Bwana Charlie galloping out six furlongs in 1:12.

“It was a nice work and he looked good,” Fleming said.
“He did it real easy — nice, smooth and relaxed. He was real
comfortable and galloped out great.”

Bwana Charlie exits a close second-place finish as the 3-5 favorite
in the six-furlong Alysheba Breeders’ Cup S. at Lone Star on October
2. Prior to that, the bay sophomore finished fourth in the
seven-furlong King’s Bishop S. (G1), defeated King’s Bishop winner
Pomeroy (Boundary) in the six-furlong Amsterdam, and ran third in the
six-furlong Carry Back S. (G3) on Calder’s “Summit of Speed”
program.

Bwana Charlie has earned $320,930 from a record 14-4-4-5.
