Darley Debutante (G1) and Sorrento S. (G3) heroine MI SUENO (Pulpit), the
leading two-year-old filly in California, suffered a condylar fracture of the
right cannon bone following a workout Tuesday morning at Hollywood Park,
according to Daily Racing Form. The bay lass is out for the rest of the
year, and her racing future is in doubt.
“She was going so easy; it happened galloping out,” trainer Eric Guillot
said. “You could see by the time she got back to the barn that something was
going on.”
Mi Sueno completed four furlongs in :47.60, the second-fastest of 10 workouts
over the Cushion Track on Tuesday. The Kentucky-bred was preparing for her next
outing in Sunday’s Oak Leaf (G1) at Santa Anita.
Owned by Southern Equine Stable, Mi Sueno finished second in her first two
starts and broke her maiden in sizzling fashion in the August 7 Sorrento,
drawing off to a 6 1/2-length decision at Del Mar. She cemented her status as a
top contender for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) with a one-length
score in the Darley Debutante on September 7.
“Bones can heal, it depends on how much cartilage damage there is,” Guillot
said when asked about her returning to the races next year. “She’s worth so much
as a broodmare.”
Purchased for $1.7 million as a weanling at the 2007 Keeneland November
breeding stock sale, Mi Sueno is the first foal out of Grade 1-winning
millionaire Madcap Escapade (Hennessy).
