Nancy Mazzoni’s three-year-old filly SHE BE WILD (Offlee Wild) sealed an
Eclipse Award campaign winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Santa
Anita on November 6 for trainer Wayne Catalano, and she is entered to launch her
2010 season in Sunday’s $150,000
Forward Gal S. (G2) going seven furlongs at Gulfstream Park.
Jockey Julien Leparoux was aboard She Be Wild for the first time in the
Breeders’ Cup and retains the mount as the dark bay lass makes her first ever
start on dirt after four victories and a second in as many starts as a
two-year-old on synthetic surfaces at Arlington Park, Keeneland and Santa Anita.
She breaks from post position 6.
She Be Wild has posted a series of sharp workouts over the Gulfstream track
and Catalano has identified the April 3 Ashland S. (G1) at Keeneland and
Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs on April 30 as early season targets. The
sophomore suffered her only defeat when second by a half-length in the
Alcibiades S. (G1) at Keeneland prior to the Breeders’ Cup.
Remarkably, She Be Wild’s presence in the Forward Gal didn’t scare off
rivals, as she faces 12 others including AILALEA (Pulpit), winner of the Tempted
S. (G3) at Aqueduct; and the undefeated RICHIEGIRLGONEWILD (Wildcat Heir),
winner of the six-furlong Old Hat S. (G3) over the track on January 9.
Jockey Edgar Prado rides Ailalea for trainer Todd Pletcher as she makes her
first start since drawing off to win the one-mile Tempted at Aqueduct by 1 1/4
lengths on November 7. The bay miss broke her maiden by four lengths going a
mile at Belmont Park in her previous start after two good tries in sprints, and
her stretch-running style may serve her well in Sunday’s field.
Regular rider Tim Thornton will be back aboard Richiegirlgonewild, who has
won all three of her career starts for trainer Larry Rivelli. The bay filly won
her debut going two furlongs at Arlington Park on May 2 and didn’t run again
until winning a 4 1/2-furlong allowance at Charles Town in mid-November. She
went wire-to-wire in taking the Old Hat by a length over several rivals she
faces again Sunday.
Another solid contender in the race will be SISTER RESISTOR (Jump Start) with
Kent Desormeaux aboard for trainer Ken McPeek. She captured her career bow by
four lengths at Ellis Park in July and rallied from last of 11 to finish third
behind She Be Wild in the Top Flight S. at Arlington Park in August. In her only
start since then, Sister Resistor won a one-mile allowance race at Gulfstream by
2 1/2 lengths on January 6.
