Zakocity scores in Discovery
Paul P. Pompa Jr.’s ZAKOCITY (Precocity) took the lead soon
after the start of Wednesday’s $110,100 Discovery H. (G3) at
Aqueduct and went on to take the nine-furlong test by 3 1/2 easy
lengths. Ridden by Javier Castellano, the Patrick
Reynolds-trained sophomore was sent off at 6-1 and stopped the
clock for the fast-track feature in 1:49 3/5 after setting
fractions of :24 2/5, :48 4/5, 1:13 1/5 and 1:37 1/5.
Zakocity paid out $15, $6.20 and $4.50 while starting the
$79.50 exacta and $704 trifecta (7-5-4). Stolen Time (Time
Bandit) ran in second throughout and finished up in that spot at
9-2. He was worth $5.30 and $4.80 for holding Mahzouz
(Charismatic) to third by three parts of a length. Show gave back
$5.30 at 21-1.
Next across the line came Navesink River (Unbridled), Go Now
(Go for Gin), favored My Snookie’s Boy (Crafty Friend), Reggie
for Three (Belong to Me) and Coded Warning (Cryptoclearance).
Zakocity increased his earnings to $338,607 while improving
his career mark to 22-4-4-5. This was his first stakes score, but
the bay colt had previously placed in five black-type tests,
including the Pegasus H. (G3) prior to this one.
Bred in Florida by John Franks, Zakocity is the third
registered foal, and first stakes winner, out of multiple stakes
winner Zakcat (Vilzak) and counts an unnamed weanling filly by
Lost Soldier as a half-sister.
