Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier and Derrick Smith’s ADIEU (El Corredor) laid
claim to this year’s 114th running of the $250,000
Spinaway S. (G2) at Saratoga. Settled in second by jockey John Velazquez, the two-year-old filly
followed near 3-2 favorite Effectual (Carson City) through splits of :22 1/5 and
:45 2/5 before digging in determinedly to take over the lead after six furlongs
in 1:10 1/5. The bay gained a one-length lead over second-placer Folklore (Tiznow) by
the time she hit the wire, stopping the clock for the seven-furlong fast track affair in
1:23 3/5.

The Todd Pletcher trainee left the gate at 7-1 to pay $17.40, $8.30 and $5.50
while Folklore gave back $8.00 and $5.10 at 7-1. Along the Sea (Anees) paid
$6.70 at 25-1 for the show. Exotics returned $103 (exacta) and $1,078 (trifecta).
Sensation (Dixie Union), Effectual, Wonder Lady Anne L (Real Quiet) and Fifth
Avenue (Monarchos) rounded out the order of finish.

Bred in Kentucky by Glencrest Farm, Adieu is out of the winning Irene’s Talkin (At the Threshold) and counts herself as a half-sister to an unnamed
yearling filly by Smart Strike and a full sister to a 2005 filly. This win,
which she adds to a score in the Astoria S.,
improved Adieu’s record to 4-3-0-0 and increased her earnings to $254,470. Adieu
sold for $300,000 at the Fasig-Tipton February sale earlier this year.
