Midway Road wires Fayette
William S. Farish’s homebred MIDWAY ROAD (Jade Hunter) took
the lead from the gate in Saturday’s $161,250 Fayette S. (G3) at
Keeneland and was never headed en route to a close nose finish
over 6-5 favorite Total Impact (Chi) (Stuka). Ridden by Calvin
Borel and trained by Neil Howard, Midway Road completed nine fast
track furlongs in 1:50 1/5.
Sent off the second choice at 7-5, the bay four-year-old was
worth $4, $2.80 and $2.20. Total Impact gave back $2.40 and $2.20
and it was another six lengths back to Alumni Hall (A.P. Indy) in
third, who returned $2.40 at 7-1. The exotics paid out $10.40 (exacta)
and $36 (1-3-6 trifecta). Sonic West (West by West) came next and
Quest (Seeking the Gold) rounded out the order of finish after
Grey Beard (Unbridled’s Song) was withdrawn.
Midway Road increased his earnings to $659,060 with the
winner’s check and now shows a 16-6-2-2 career record. Earlier
this year, he set a new track record at Keeneland when taking the
Ben Ali S. (G3) and owns three black-type placings, including
last year’s Preakness S. (G1). He was bred in Kentucky and is out
of stakes winner Fleet Road (Magesterial).
