Seven three-year-olds will line up for Saturday’s $100,000 Silky Sullivan H.
(G3) at Golden Gate Fields, and we’re going with EASTERN SAND (Line in the Sand)
to come out on top in this nine-furlong turf test. Trained by Jeff Mullins, the
chestnut gelding looks to be the talent of this field, running second by a nose
in the Oak Tree Derby (G2) last out and fourth by just a length in the Del Mar
Derby (G2) prior to that one. He earned a BRIS Speed rating of 100 and a BRIS E2
Pace figure of 104 for both of those starts and could finally breakthrough with
his first stakes win in this spot. Victor Espinoza rides.

EAGER PHARISIEN (Pharisien [Fr]) proved he doesn’t need the lead to win in
his last one, taking an 11-furlong optional claimer on Bay Meadows’ turf by
three lengths after dueling for pacesetting duties in the early running. Prior
to that, the Clifford Delima charge led from gate to wire in an allowance over
the same course and still earned a 110 BRIS Late Pace rating. The dark bay
gelding is one of the more consistent runners in this field and could even show
up in the winner’s circle at the end of this event under Russell Baze.

MR. SPLASH (Devil His Due) has been on the steady improve since switching to
the barn of Patrick Gallagher, taking an allowance by 3 1/2 lengths two back at
Del Mar before just missing by a nose in an optional claimer at the Oak Tree
meet last out. His numbers are competitive for this field, and the chestnut
could threaten in the top three with Chance Rollins aboard.

FUNNY FLYER (Michael’s Flyer) will be making his turf debut here, but could
earn a place in the exotics if he transfers his dirt form. The dark bay gelding
ran second in the Earlene McCabe Derby two back on the main track and deserves
consideration for the bottom of the gimmicks. AIZARUNNER (Exploit) owns three
wins and a second from four starts on the turf and could earn part here.

IN EXCELSIS (Fusaichi Pegasus) may not be fast enough to keep up here. We’ll
take a stand against. SHARP WRITER (Capote) was an early scratch on Friday.
