Full fields assembled for Texas Champions Day

Nine stakes worth $625,000 in purses will be featured on Sam
Houston’s Texas Champions Day on Saturday.

A special first post of 6 p.m. (CST) will start off the day,
but the stakes action will begin in the 2ND race with the $50,000
Yellow Rose S.
SAGO (Valid Expectations) will be making her
second appearance on Texas Champions Day after scoring in last
year’s Bara Lass S. for trainer Steven Asmussen.

She’ll have to face six rivals in the six-furlong Yellow Rose,
but that’s six less than what was entered in this season’s
$50,000 Bara
Lass
. Twelve juvenile fillies will go in that
seven-furlong event, including MS SENECA ROCK (Seneca Jones), who
posted her third victory from four lifetime starts while taking
the Valor Farm S. last out.

One of the more anticipated races on the day will be the
$150,000 Sam Houston Texan Juvenile
S.
, which drew nine entrants
going 1 1/16 miles. LEAVING ON MY MIND (Valid Expectations)
will be trying for his fifth straight black-type stakes victory
over a fourth different track here.

The other stakes on the day are the $100,000 Star of Texas S.
for three-year-olds and up at 1 1/16 miles; the $75,000 Martanza
S.
sending distaffers a mile; the $50,000 Groovy S. for
two-year-olds going seven furlongs; the $50,000 Spirit of Texas
S.
for three-year-olds and up at three-quarters; the $50,000
Richard King H.
at 1 1/8 miles on the turf for three-year-olds
and up; and the $50,000 San Jacinto S. for turf distaffers at 8
1/2 furlongs on the green.
