Generous (G3)

Thirteen juveniles will contest the $100,000 Generous S. (G3)
at Hollywood Park on Saturday, a grassy one-mile affair. The
field includes the seasoned DUBLEO (Southern Halo), who already
has eight starts to his credit in his first year on the track.
We’ll try to beat the Canadian Grade 2 winner with VEILED SPEED (Runaway
Groom), who utilizes exactly that type of running style.

Just missing by three-quarters-of-a-length after a slow start
in his debut, the juvenile showed the class of horses twice his
age when rushing home to finish second and record a BRIS Late
Pace figure of 100. In his next try, he finished just a nose
short as he made yet another late run before breaking his maiden
last out in fine fashion, once again closing from the back of the
pack in the Pinjara S., a race run at this same distance over the
Santa Anita turf. The gray owns a nice work over this course and
gets David Flores in the irons, and we think he’ll surprise at
nice odds.

Dubleo is obviously the class of the field. The Summer S. (Can-G2)
hero owns five wins from eight starts, nearly all of which came
in wire-to-wire fashion. If the Todd Pletcher trainee gets caught
in a speed duel up front, as it appears fellow Generous contender
LITTLEBITOFZIP (Littlebitlively) will force the juvenile to do,
he may get caught, if not by our first selection then by another
excellent closer in the field, the Ronald McAnally-trained LUCKY
BID (Maria’s Mon). Dubleo will be tough to beat if he gets the
early, easy lead.

SUNNY SKY (Fr) (Septieme Ciel) gets blinkers for his U.S. bow,
coming off of two straight wins in his native France. The last,
at this distance over the turf, was in the Prix Des Sablonnets.
The promising chestnut may get up for part.

Littlebitofzip will challenge Dubleo for the lead and if he
gets away with slow fractions, may hold off the closers. The Dan
Hendricks trainee ran third over the dirt in the Norfolk S. (G2)
to Roman Ruler (Fusaichi Pegasus) and owns the back class to be a
factor. The distance will suit him, as he broke his maiden three
back over this same distance and surface, and the dark bay may be
the sleeper of the field.

Second by a head last out to Veiled Speed when making his turf
debut in the Pinjara, Lucky Bid broke his maiden over this
distance two back at Santa Anita. The gray gets the services of
Gary Stevens and should be closing strong. Watch out. GENERALIST
(General Meeting) ran fourth in the Pinjara, but was only beaten
a length. He will be closer to the battle up front but may hit
the board. We’ll use in the exotics.

QUIET MONEY (Seattle Slew) will try the turf for the first
time for new trainer Marcelo Polanco after breaking his maiden
last out by 11 lengths. He steps way up here but could like the
sod. VITRUVIAN (Lemon Drop Kid) enters here for Bobby Frankel in
much the same way as Quiet Money, an open-length winner last out
breaking his maiden, and is now trying the grass for the first
time. We’ll use these two in the bottom of the gimmicks.

MOTH BALL (GB) (Royal Applause [GB]) has been off since early
October and the bay makes his first start in the U.S. here.
Having never run the distance, we’ll watch for now. FORZEEN (GB)
(Forzando [GB]) is yet another European invader making his U.S.
bow and may be in need of a start against graded rivals. The
uncoupled Frankel-trained CHATTAHOOCHEE WAR (War Chant) broke his
maiden at first asking but steps up here and may not be ready for
eight furlongs. We’ll give the bay a race.

PETRUS (Silver Hawk) got his first lifetime win in his second
try, covering this same course and distance earlier this month.
His BRIS Speed rating of 72 is not competitive in this field,
however, and we’ll watch for now. DOCTOR KANANGA (Ire) (Dr Fong)
enters off a four-month layoff and has never ran further that six
furlongs. We’ll watch his U.S. debut.
