Pablo Del Monte, the also eligible who drew into Kentucky Derby field after
the scratch of Hoppertunity on Thursday, has himself been scratched from
Saturday’s Run for the Roses by trainer Wesley Ward.
The Giant’s Causeway colt, who was third in the Blue Grass and Hutcheson,
will be pointed toward the $1.5 million Preakness at Pimlico on May 17.
As a result of Pablo Del Monte’s withdrawal, which leaves a Derby field of
19, Churchill Downs officials have announced that stall one in the main starting
gate will be left open and that horses 1-10 will shift outward one stall.
