Jockey Dean Sarvis posted the 1,000th win of his career Friday night when
guiding Mr Mag (Mt. Magazine) to a neck score in the 8TH race at Turfway Park.
The 36-year-old rider entered the evening one shy of the mark, but ended the
12-race card with two wins after a front-running victory by Liberty Bellah
(Confide) in the 9TH.
“It’s a big milestone,” Sarvis said. “I’m glad to reach it. I wasn’t really
thinking about it. I knew it would come eventually.”
Sarvis won both of River Downs’ meets this summer and set a record for number
of wins in a season at that track with 167 victories. Earlier in the fall, he
piloted Cappuchino (Capote) to a win in the Turfway Park Fall Championship (G3).
Sarvis has seven wins, four runner-up finishes and three show placings after
four days of the 24-day Holiday Meet at Turfway. He plans to ride throughout the
current meet and continue on into the Winter/Spring Meet at the Florence,
Kentucky, track.
