Today’s Topic: Missed official workouts can lead to nice prices
On February 21 in the 6TH race at Aqueduct, MON OVER MIAMI (Maria’s Mon) was
stretching out after setting even fractions while sprinting as the favorite in a
maiden event on February 3. In the official past performances, he showed only
one slow three-furlong workout on January 15 since December 19. We had two
unpublished works on January 20 and January 26 that were Grade B works with
comments that included “Looked good all the way…good work.”
As noted in a
previous Winning with Workouts column, such comments often lead to good
performances. With the knowledge that the horse had been working well rather
than sporadically prior to his last race, the stretch out off the even fraction
sprint led to some value at the mutuels. He paid $13.20 to win.
