R & W Srygley Partnership’s MAUK FOUR (Boston Harbor) made all the pace in
Wednesday’s $100,000
Fifth Season S. (G3), setting uncontested fractions of :23
2/5, :47 3/5, 1:12 2/5 and 1:36 4/5 before completing 8 1/2 furlongs over the
fast Oaklawn Park track in 1:42 4/5. Winner of the 2003 Northern Spur Breeders’
Cup S. over the Hot Springs, Arkansas, oval, the Jerry Cart-trained
five-year-old horse maintained a clear lead through the stretch drive to earn
his first graded victory by 2 1/2 lengths.

The second choice at nearly 3-1 with jockey Jeffery Burningham, Mauk Four
paid $7.80, $4.60 and $3.20. Clays Awesome (Awesome Again), who was off at
nearly 7-1, saved ground while stalking the pace in third down the backstretch
and rallied for second leaving the far turn while never threatening the winner.
The runner-up gave back $7.60 and $3.60, and 2-1 favorite Absent Friend (Runaway
Groom), who was another three parts of length back in third at the wire, was
good for $2.80. The exacta totaled $46 and the 5-3-4 trifecta returned $131.40.

Free Thinking (Unbridled), Missme (Belong to Me), Pro Prado (El Prado [Ire]),
River Mountain Rd (Deputy Commander) and Separato (Victory Gallop) rounded out
the order of finish.

Bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds & Highlands of Lexington Inc., Mauk
Four now owns an overall mark of 32-6-7-3 with $266,490 in earnings. He finished
second earlier this year in both the Essex H. (G3) and Razorback Breeders’ Cup
H. (G3) at Oaklawn. The chestnut is out of the winning Moroccan Magic (Rahy) and
has an unraced juvenile half-brother named Rock’n Rol Ruler (Rock and Roll).
