Choo shows no rust in Honey Fox

Last updated: 3/7/09 7:18 PM

Flying Zee Stables’ homebred I LOST MY CHOO (Western Expression) was making
her first start since August in Saturday’s $100,000
Honey Fox S. (G3) at
Gulfstream Park, but the four-year-old looked like she was in midseason form as
she powered home a convincing winner for Phil Serpe. Breaking well from the
rail, the 122-pound co-highweight was content to save ground early and
responded well when asked to come wide and commence her run approaching the
final turn. She collared a clear Flibberjibit (Arch) in late stretch and
streaked home powerfully to finish two lengths clear at the wire, finishing off
one mile on the firm ground in 1:33 2/5. The 7-1 fourth choice paid $164.0,
$9.20 and $6.80 while keying the exotics; $720.60 exacta, $6,156 trifecta and
$26,926 superfecta (1-15-9-7).

Rustic Flame (Ire) (Danehill Dancer) rallied well late to be a clear second
at 50-1, paying $38.80 and $14.80 in the process. It was three-parts back to the
nearly 6-1 co-second choice Flibberjibit, who opened up a clear lead in early
stretch before being outrun in the latter stages. Show was worth $5.80. The
healthy superfecta was capped by co-second choice Scolara (Quiet American).
Tejida (Rahy) was a neck back in fifth and trailed by Dattts Our Girl (Thunder
Gulch), Social Queen (Dynaformer), Love Cove (Not for Love), Ashley River
(Deputy Wild Cat), 4-5 favorite Wild Promises (Wild Event), who led for the
opening six furlongs before throwing in the towel, Audacious Chloe (More Than
Ready) and Fancy Fusaichi (Fusaichi Pegasus). Cocktail Attire (Distorted Humor), Lemonlime (Lemon Drop Kid) and Waquoit’s Love (Not for Love) were withdrawn.

I Lost My Choo earned her biggest sophomore score when taking the Virginia
Oaks (G3), and also conquered the Elmont S. while placing in the Sands Point S.
(G2) and Appalachian S. (G3). The bay Empire State-bred improved her lifetime
mark to 10-6-0-2, $336,140 with this tally.

The winner was produced from the winning Fairy Queen (Tom Rolfe) and was preceded in
stakes glory by half-sister Kevin’s Decision (Expensive Decision).
