Win Willy will not run in Derby

Last updated: 4/29/09 3:46 PM

Rebel S. (G2) winner WIN WILLY (Monarchos) is out of Saturday’s 135th running
of the Kentucky Derby (G1). Trainer Mac Robertson announced Tuesday morning that
the gray colt could have the start of a small fracture in his left front ankle.
Win Willy exits a fourth in the Arkansas Derby (G2).

Win Willy makes four defections from the Derby field since Monday morning.
Top contender Quality Road (Elusive Quality) was removed from consideration on
Monday, and Square Eddie (Smart Strike) and Take the Points (Even the Score)
dropped out on Tuesday.

Win Willy’s absence opened a spot for NOWHERE TO HIDE (Vindication), who
suddenly became a late addition for two-time Derby winner Nick Zito. The Hall of
Fame conditioner doesn’t have any other horses in this year’s field.
