Nine colts and gelding will line up at Aqueduct Sunday for the $100,000 Sport
Page H. (G3) at seven furlongs over the main track. GYGISTAR (Prospector’s
Music), third in the Forego H. (G1) twice, will most likely bring the lowest
odds come race time, so we will try to beat him with VOODOO (Petionville).
The James Jerkens charge comes off a second-place finish to the ever-strong
Pico Central (Brz) (Spend a Buck) in the Vosburgh S. (G1). Voodoo has recorded a
series of up-and-down finishes, but his performance in the Vosburgh warrants him
a chance here. Jockey Jorge Chavez returns to better his performance on Sunday.
Gygistar has yet to record a win since running away with the Westchester H.
(G3) at Belmont in May. Since that race, the five-year-old gelding has only
managed to put in a couple of third-place results at best. This drop in class
makes him a very heavy favorite to finish atop the board. Trainer Mark Hennig
will lift Joe Bravo into the irons.
MASS MEDIA (Touch Gold) came away victorious in the Fly So Free S. in his
last outing, the only stakes win for the three-year-old colt. The dark bay
exited with a triple-digit BRIS Speed figure and comes into this race in fine
fashion. Look for a good performance by the Bobby Frankel trainee. Javier
Castellano has the call.
LION TAMER (Will’s Way) was a major contender earlier in the year, but has
since fizzled. The Todd Pletcher-trained chestnut comes off an eighth-place
finish in the Meadowland’s Breeders’ Cup S. (G3). Pletcher and jockey John
Velazquez have gone 16-6-1-0 in the past two weeks and the three-year-old colt
should finish toward the top of the pack.
SUPER FUSE (Lite the Fuse) came a close second two back in the Arlington
Breeders’ Cup Sprint H. His Speed figures keep him in contention for this race,
but he will probably go off at high odds. Could be worth a second look at the
windows. PERSONAL TOUCH (Twinning) has found himself on the board several times
in the past year and is a possible for the bottom of the gimmicks.
EAVESDROPPER (Kingmambo) comes off a ninth-place finish last out in the
Forego. He produced nice results in the lower echelons, but could be overmatched
here. CONSERVATION (Tamayaz) will be coming off a 55-day layoff and does not
have the positive results to put him on the top of the board. TOMAHAWK (Seattle
Slew) comes off a ninth-place finish in an allowance last out. We will bet
against.
