A well-matched field of eight sophomore fillies is set for Saturday’s
$150,000 Boiling Springs S. (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on Monmouth Park’s turf, and we’ll take a shot with
OBSEQUIOUS (Fusaichi Pegasus), who will look to rebound off a troubled sixth in
the American One Thousand Guineas at Arlington Park. Trained by Elizabeth Gray,
the dark bay lass finished ahead of BLUEGRASS PRINCESS (Dynaformer), the 5-2
favorite on the morning line, when second by a half-length to Gozzip Girl
(Dynaformer) in the Herecomesthebride S. (G3) three starts back, but she hasn’t
had the smoothest of trips in her last two outings. Obsequious still managed to
register a 101 BRIS Late Pace rating last time, and we’ll look for her to uncork
a more formidable rally under new rider Carlos Marquez Jr.

MY MAGIC MOMENT (Forest Wildcat) came up a little short when trying the
Monmouth turf in the Little Silver S. last time, but the added distance and the
possibility of some give in the ground could enhance her chances on Saturday.
The chestnut ran well twice over yielding turf last year at Belmont, winning the
Missy Moo I Love You S. and finishing third by a half-length to eventual
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Maram (Sahm) in the Miss Grillo S. (G3),
and there’s been plenty of rain in the Northeast recently. The Tom Albertrani
pupil will be running late under Elvis Trujillo.

Bluegrass Princess is a top contender for Kiaran McLaughlin, but there will
be no value available with the Grade 2-placed filly. She turned in a solid
performance last time in the Sands Point S. (G2), tracking the pace before coming
up a little short in third, and the bay lass is a candidate to improve off that
commendable showing. We’ll use her in our top three but will try to beat the
likely favorite for the win at short odds.

MARY’S FOLLIES (More Than Ready) is scheduled to make her turf and graded
debut, and the bay lass figures to enjoy a ground-saving trip from the rail
under Stewart Elliott. The improving filly is bred to handle the grass, and
she’s earned solid BRIS Speed and Pace numbers in both starts for John Forbes.
We won’t be surprised to see her keep moving forward with a top-three finish.

PLATINUM GIRL (Mineshaft) exits a front-running win in the Little Silver and
figures to show the way early from her inside post in this spot. A winner in
three of her last four starts, the Todd Pletcher-conditioned filly merits
respect given her good present form, but we’re concerned about her dismal mark
at the 1 1/16-mile distance (3-0-0-0). BLIND DATE (Not for Love) is another one
who could possibly outperform our expectations. She’s looked terrific in her
last two starts at Pimlico, winning a pair of listed stakes on the turf, and
could have a bright future for Hamilton Smith. This will be a serious class
test, however.

KIAWAH CAT (Lemon Drop Kid) steps up to face stakes rivals for the first time
off a good-looking allowance win over the course, but the Bill Mott charge
didn’t appear to face the stiffest competition in that spot. We’ll give the
promising filly a start at this level. SANDI’S READY (More Than Ready) could add
to the pace, but we haven’t seen enough in her recent efforts to recommend her
chances.
