Two colts and one filly attracted final bids of $45,000 at Wednesday’s second
session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2009 August Open Yearling Sale.

Hip No. 682, a Stormy Atlantic colt out of the winning La Defense (Wild
Again), was purchased by MC Brothers from the consignment of Summerfield
(Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), agent. The Florida-bred is a half-brother to
the stakes-winning Quelle Surprise (Slew Gin Fizz) and is from the family of
Irish Group 1 winner and sire Leading Counsel (Alleged) and the Grade 3-winning
Noisette (Broad Brush).

Another colt from the Summerfield consignment, Hip 718, attracted the same
amount from Bo Hunt, agent. The Put It Back yearling is out of the winning
Lovely Lyric (Alydar), making him a half-brother to the stakes-placed Sharcan (Peteski)
and Le Monde (Runaway Groom). The Florida-bred is from the family of 1996
champion three-year-old filly Yanks Music (Air Forbes Won) as well as Greentree
stalwarts Hatchet Man (The Axe II) and Stop the Music (Hail to Reason).

The other co-session topper was Hip 781 from the first crop of multiple Grade
1 winner Pomeroy. Consigned by Big C Farm, the Florida-bred filly was purchased
by Vinery Stables. Produced by Misty Springs (Wild Again), a half-sister to the
Grade 1-placed Eye Dazzler (Boundary), the yearling is from the family of
multiple Grade 1 winner Kalookan Queen (Lost Code).

On Wednesday, 185 yearlings sold for $1,352,200, a decline of 33.6 percent
from the comparable session in 2008 when 226 head brought $2,036,000. The
session average was off 18.9 percent, from $9,009 to $7,309, while the median
was down 18.2 percent, from $5,500 to $4,500.

The sale concludes Thursday with the selling starting at 10:30 a.m. (EDT).
