WISE RIVER (Belong to Me) is drawn widest of the nine in the Robert F. Carey
Memorial H. (G3) at Hawthorne on Saturday, but we will still side with the Clark
Hanna charge. The dark bay moved up a lot in his five-year-old season, and while
he was ambitiously placed at times, the Kentucky-bred proved that he was a
talented runner who deserved the chance. The six-year-old hasn’t been all that
good in his last pair, but we’re hoping to blame that on yielding turf and give
him a chance against a questionable bunch. Jamie Theriot has the assignment.
Sea o’ Erin H. winner PUBLIC SPEAKER (Distorted Humor) flopped against a
solid field in his lone graded try to date, but the improving four-year-old
isn’t facing any monsters in here and must be given a chance at a square price.
The chestnut could complete the exacta for trainer Dale Bennett.
Likely pacesetter EXCHANGING KISSES (Exchange Rate) has won three of his last
four since being claimed and will attempt to take this field all the way on the
lead beneath E.T. Baird. We’ll put him in our vertical exotics.
Claiming Crown Jewel S. hero ANTRIM COUNTY (Giant’s Causeway) has yet to
prove that he belongs with this type, but he has 13 wins over the past two years
and could hit the board. The useful SEBASTIAN COUNTY (Hennessy) hasn’t won since March but is often in
the mix, so we’ll toss him in on the bottom of some exotics.
RAHYSTRADA (Rahy) has done good work in crushing allowance and claiming foes
in two of his last four, and while the gelding could be a big threat on his best
day, his inconsistency scares us away. SPOTSGONE (Bright Launch) has just three career turf
starts and we prefer
others with more grass experience.
LAST GRAN STANDING (Distorted Humor) has mostly been a sprinter for trainer
Brian Williamson, and while the rail should help him save ground to endure more
ground, he still looks questionable at a route. READY’S CLYDE (More Than Ready) topped claimers at Saratoga two prior but
can’t be backed from this corner.
