anniversary

On Wednesday, Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear unveiled a new license plate
that celebrates Keeneland’s 75th anniversary.

“Keeneland is one of the most historic and beautiful racetracks in the
country, and citizens and visitors alike look forward every year to the
beginning of the spring and fall meets,” Beshear said. “An invaluable part of
the Commonwealth’s tourism, Keeneland encompasses all that is Kentucky: horses,
beauty and hospitality. I am delighted to help celebrate the track’s 75th
anniversary, and this specialty plate will help promote a distinct part of
Kentucky’s identity.”

The license plate is part of Keeneland’s mission to include the community in
its 75th anniversary celebration. From day one, the founders had a clear goal of
staying connected to the community and Keeneland has maintained those ties
through the decades.

“As we planned for this 75th anniversary, it gave us the opportunity to
appreciate that while much has changed though the years, at our core, we remain
very much the same,” Keeneland President Nick Nicholson remarked. “Everyone has
helped Keeneland flourish while staying true to the founders’ guiding principles
of providing quality racing, sales and service to the community.”

To obtain a green and white Keeneland license plate, Kentucky residents need
to take their current registration, proof of insurance and old license plate,
along with $39, to their local County Clerk’s office.

The fee includes an optional $5 donation that goes to the Keeneland
Foundation’s charitable giving program, which has contributed $18 million to
various charitable and educational enterprises throughout the years.

The 75th anniversary celebration will continue during the Spring Meet, which
starts Friday and runs through April 29. The celebration will culminate in a
special one-night only salute to Keeneland by the Boston Pops and the University
of Kentucky Symphony Orchestra on October 15.
