Eight will go postward for the $150,000 First Flight H. (G2) at Belmont Park
on Sunday. SMOKEY GLACKEN (Forestry) is the only true speed in the race and
comes off a disheartening loss to fellow rival UMPATEEDLE (Suave Prospect) in
the Gallant Bloom H. (G2), where she just missed the bob at the wire. She owns triple-digit BRIS
Speed figures in her last three outings and will be the one to beat in this
seven-furlong contest. John Velazquez will ride.
GREAT INTENTIONS (Cat Thief) dominated the Oh What a Windfall S. last out, capturing that
one by eight lengths. The three-year-old bay filly comes into this race in good
form and should finish in the top three for conditioner Michael Hushion. Edgar
Prado has the call.
FIFTH OVERTURE (Pulpit) impressed in the Seaway S. (Can-G3) last out,
earning a 113 BRIS Late Pace rating, and looks ready for this one. She comes
off a 50-day freshening for trainer Eric Coatrieux and is a threat to find the
winner’s circle.
Umpateedle has annexed her last two, the Gallant Bloom and Endine H. (G2),
for trainer Mark Shuman. She seems to be in the best form of her career and
should be considered for the exotics.
TRAVELATOR (A. P Jet) exits a runner-up in the Iroquois H. over sloppy going
at Belmont. She has good BRIS E2 Pace figures and should be near the front at the
wire.
LILAH (Defrere) weakened to come in fourth in the Floral Park H. (G3) and
might be a little outclassed here. AREEK (Deputy Minister) is winless in three
starts at Belmont Park and could be outmatched in this one. HABIBOO (Unbridled’s
Song) has not put up the numbers of her rivals and we will bet against.
