HE LOVES ME (Not for Love) returns to the track off a 49-day
layoff to tackle 11 other sophomore fillies in Saturday’s Anne
Arundel S. (G3) at Pimlico, and we think she’ll be tough to beat
in the nine-furlong dirt affair. Not having run since finishing
fourth behind eventual Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Ashado (Saint
Ballado) in the Cotillion H. (G2), the Richard Small charge is
undefeated at Pimlico, with four wins from as many starts.
Regular rider Jozbin Santana has the mount aboard the bay, who
came off the shelf in similar fashion to win earlier this year.
PAWYNE PRINCESS (Saint Ballado) won last out off more than a
four-month layoff, and holds the highest BRIS Speed figure of the
field, recording a 105 when winning her debut at Laurel Park. She
ran second to Yearly Report (General Meeting) in the Black-Eyed
Susan S. (G2) and holds a mark of 7-3-2-1, including a win last
out in her first start for conditioner Mark Shuman. Watch out for
her at 8-1 on the morning line.
The Christopher Grove-trained SILMARIL (Diamond) enters here
with a four-race win streak at what appears to be the perfect
time for the jump in class. The filly recorded a 2 3/4-length win
over BLIND CANYON (Valley Crossing), another competitor in this
field, in the Maryland Million Oaks last out. She could surprise.
Another consistent filly stepping up here is FAMILY BUSINESS (Saint
Ballado), trained by Dallas Stewart. The bay has been running
well as of late, and could be due for part. We’ll use her
gimmicks with Jerry Bailey in the irons.
RARE GIFT (Unbridled’s Song) has run at this level for trainer
John Kimmel and could be there in the end. The gray tired early
last out but exits a key half-mile drill and has the services of
Edgar Prado. We’ll use her in the bottom of the exotics.
An 8 1/4-length victress last out, ESSENCE (Gulch) looks to be
the most capable of the fillies stepping up to the graded level
here. The bay has blossomed under the handling of Todd Pletcher,
holding a 3-1-1-1 record since being switched over from the Bob
Baffert barn. Don’t forget her at the windows.
TOUCHNOW (Pleasant Tap) has run in five consecutive stakes
with a record of 1-2-0 and should enjoy the surface switch, but
we’ll watch for now. POUR IT ON (Cryptoclearance) ran over the
turf last out in the Martha Washington Breeders’ Cup S. (G3) and
did not find the grass to her liking. She should welcome the
return to the dirt, but we’ll give her a race against graded
company on the main track.
SUMMER RAINBOW (Summer Squall) brings a three-race win streak
into this event but steps up here. We can’t recommend. NAGEM
NAGEM NAGEM (Crypto Star) enters in much the same way as Pour it
On and Touchnow, so we’ll let her beat us. JAZZ LEGEND (Silver
Deputy) has won three in a row as well, but we can’t overlook the
class jump. Blind Canyon appears overmatched.
