Stonestreet Stables LLC’s Cavorting took Sunday’s Grade 2, $300,000
Adirondack at Saratoga
by 1 3/4 lengths under jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. to move her record to a perfect
two-for-two. The bay daughter of Bernardini captured her maiden debut by 11
lengths on July 3 at
Belmont Park
, and now shows $264,000 in lifetime earnings.

“We had a lot of confidence because she’s trained very well. She’s a special
filly,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin praised Cavorting. “She ran 11 weeks after she came to us and won by 11
(lengths). Usually
our horses improve (in their) second start.

“She had a perfect trip; Irad rode a great race. We wanted to try to keep her face clean,
and it worked out very well. She’s a very talented filly.”

“At the half-mile, I had to cut the corner. I didn’t want to go too wide. I got
in a little bit and asked her a little bit and I had horse,” Ortiz explained. “When I asked her,
she just took off. I got clear turning for home. I think she was ready. The
trainer brought her ready. When I asked her, she took off.

“She’s a nice filly.
She won first time out by 11 lengths, easy. We saw better fillies today, and she
can do it. She has some talent and (McLaughlin) does a great job
with them.”

Vivian da Bling broke on top in the Adirondack and proceeded to set a quick opening quarter in
:22 3/5 and the half-mile mark in :45 3/5 while chased by 9-5 favorite Angela Renee to her
outside and Wonder Gal down on the rail just in behind. Cavorting, settled
outside a bit farther back, had started making up ground by this point and rallied
three wide early on the turn.

Things got a bit tight for Wonder Gal down on the rail as the quartet hit the
stretch. Cavorting quickly took command and powered down the center of the track
to finish 6 1/2 furlongs on the fast dirt in 1:16 2/5. Sent off the 7-2 third
choice in the seven-juvenile field, she paid $9.50 for the win.

“It would seem that she would go further,” McLaughlin noted. “The (Grade
1, $350,000) Spinaway
(on August 31 at the Spa) is back a little quick; we’ll see how she comes
out of this race. There’s the (Grade 1, $500,000) Frizette at a mile (on October 4 at
Belmont Park), and the Breeders’ Cup (Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita) is obviously what we hope for.”

Angela Renee was best of the rest, 2 1/4 lengths clear of Wonder Gal, who in
turn had 2 3/4 lengths to spare on Vivian da Bling. Take Charge Brandi, Phoenix
Park and Empressive Humor completed the order under the wire.

“I thought she ran very well. I think we learned a few
things about her and hopefully she’ll improve as we move forward,” trainer Todd
Pletcher said of Angela Renee.

“I didn’t want to be stuck in there and get all the dirt.
I got a nice spot on the outside and she was going pretty good,” Angela Renee’s
rider, John Velazquez, described. “When the other
horses got to her, she just shied away from them. Instead of looking forward,
she was watching the other horses. Maybe blinkers next time.”

“I had thought everything was good out of the gate. It got a little
tight down the lane, but I was trying to save all the ground I could,” said
Taylor Rice before praising his mount, Wonder Gal. “My filly
ran great, so hopefully we’ll get a better shot. She’s got all the guts in the
world.”

Bred by Swettenham Stud in Kentucky, Cavorting sold for $360,000 to her
current connections as a Keeneland November weanling. The bay miss is out of the
Grade 2-scoring Carson City mare Promenade Girl, who captured five stakes,
including the 2006 Molly Pitcher, and earned more than $675,000 on track.

Her third dam is Dance Review, from whom is descended Grade 1 winners Another
Review and No Review as well as multiple Grade 2 scorers Dance Colony and
Blueskiesnrainbows. Others of note in this female family include multiple Group
1-winning sire Lyphard and dual Grade 2-scoring millionaire sire Suave, as well
as Suave’s dam, multiple Grade 1-heroine and millionaire Urbane.
