Barbados made his stakes debut a winning one in Saturday’s $100,000

Spectacular Bid
at Gulfstream Park, rallying from just off the pace to prove
best by a three-length margin over even-money favorite Ready for Rye. Making his
first start for owner Suzanne Stables and trainer Michael Tomlinson, the
three-year-old colt completed six furlongs in 1:09 2/5 with Luis Saez.

The son of Speightstown is now perfect from two starts on dirt, dropping his
first two attempts on turf before rolling to a five-length maiden special weight
victory at Keeneland on October 16. Barbados was purchased for $340,000 at the
recent Keeneland November sale following that win and has now earned $113,650
from a 4-2-1-0 record.

Barbados returned a $14.60 win mutuel as the 6-1 third choice among 10
rivals.

Ready for Rye tracked 9-1 pacesetter It’s Not Me through splits of :22 and
:44 4/5 before taking the lead in upper stretch. Barbados stalked in third and
closed strongly through the final furlongs to easily prove best, overhauling
Ready for Rye with about a sixteenth of a mile remaining.

Bred in Kentucky by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds LLC, Barbados is out of the
stakes-winning Street Cry mare Northern Station.

One race after the Spectacular Bid, Stronach Stables’ Devine Aida easily
posted a front-running victory in the $100,000
Ginger
Brew
, a 7 1/2-furlong turf test for three-year-old fillies. The daughter of
Unbridled’s Song extended her win streak to three while making her stakes bow.
Jesus Rios had the mount for trainer Ramon Morales.

She pressed an opening quarter-mile in :24 before taking command,
establishing splits of :48 1/5 and 1:12 4/5 before stopping the teletimer in
1:31 1/5 on the firm course.

Off as the 7-2 co-second choice in the nine-horse field, Devine Aida paid
$9.40 for the 3 1/2-length victory.

Nicky’s Brown Miss got up late for the place at 9-2, a neck better than
Sunday Sonnet in third. Right on Kitten, the 9-2 favorite, wound up eighth.

Bred in Kentucky by Alpha Delta Stables, Divine Aida was purchased for
$120,000 at the 2014 OBS June sale. The gray lass is out of the Grade 3-winning
Came Home mare Passion, a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Kumari Continent.

After finishing second in her September 27 debut at Gulfstream, Devine Aida
broke her maiden by a five-length margin at Gulfstream Park West on October 25.
She switched to turf and posted a nose decision over entry-level
allowance/optional claiming foes at the same venue on November 15. Her career
line now reads 4-3-1-0, $109,320.
