Dubai Sky (Candy Ride), who entered the Kentucky Derby (G1) picture with a
victory in the Spiral S. (G3), sustained an injury Saturday morning that has
knocked him off the trail.

Horse Racing Nation first broke the news, with Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott
telling the outlet that Dubai Sky had a “mishap.” Daily Racing Form‘s
David Grening then reported the details: Mott revealed that the promising colt
fractured a hind leg during his morning gallop at Churchill Downs.

Dubai Sky was a late nominee to the Triple Crown. Previously the winner of
three straight on turf, including the January 24 Kitten’s Joy at Gulfstream
Park, he made his Polytrack debut in the Spiral and rolled to a convincing 2
1/4-length score at Turfway Park.

A full brother to Grade 1 star Twirling Candy, Dubai Sky has compiled a
record of 5-4-0-1, $439,080, for Three Chimneys Farm and Besilu Stables.

Dubai Sky becomes the second prominent defection from the Triple Crown trail
this week, following Withers (G3) hero Far From Over (Blame).
