Trainer Bob Baffert, who has dominated Oaklawn’s classic preps this decade,
will send out Toews On Ice in Monday’s $150,000 Smarty Jones, a one-mile
event that kicks off the track’s lucrative series for three-year-olds that
includes the $500,000 Southwest (G3), $900,000 Rebel (G2), and $1 million
Arkansas Derby (G1).
A multiple stakes winner and Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) runner-up, Toews On
Ice will face as many as 13 opponents in the Smarty Jones.
On Saturday at Golden Gate Fields,
Allaboutaction will try stakes company for the second time in the $100,000
California Derby against seven rivals.
American Pharoah’s victory in the Belmont S. (G1) was named the NTRA’s Moment of
