Lundy’s Liability made his five-year-old bow a winning one

Stud TNT and Slack’s LUNDY’S LIABILITY (Brz) (Candy Stripes) raced near the
leaders in Sunday’s $250,000
San Antonio H. (G2) before passing a fading Total
Impact (Chi) (Stuka) on the rail and the pacesetting Truly a Judge (Judge T C)
in the final eighth of a mile to take the nine-furlong test by 1 1/2 lengths. The latter fought back, but was no match for the
winner, who held second by a length over a closing Congrats (A.P. Indy).
Rating just off fractions of :23 1/5 and :47 for the opening half, Truly a
Judge was content to lead the pack with Lundy’s Liability and jockey David
Flores, while Total Impact was close behind. After three quarters in 1:11,
Total Impact threw in the towel, giving a little room
to Lundy’s Liability on the rail. Truly a Judge held on valiantly, but a taxing
mile in 1:35 4/5 kept the seven-year-old at bay as Lundy’s Liability crossed the
wire first, stopping the clock in 1:49.
The winner returned $8.20, $4.60 and $3.40 at 3-1 while keying the $1 exotics
of $16.40 (exacta) and $51.80 (trifecta). Truly a Judge, sent off at 7-2, gave
back $4.20 and $3. Congrats made up considerable ground in the final eighth, but
could not get past Truly a Judge and rewarded his supporters with $3.40 at 3-1. Skukuza (Lord Avie) got up to complete the
$1 super (7-6-11-3) worth $417.50. They were followed by Total Impact, Asong for Billy (Unbridled’s Song), Star
Cross (Arg) (Southern Halo) and Epicentre (Kris S.).
Go Bob (Bordeaux Bob) was pulled up and vanned off when he came up lame after
the first turn. Castledale (Ire) (Pientre Celebre) and Outta Here (Dehere) were
withdrawn.
