MOSCOW BURNING (Moscow Ballet) was named California-bred Horse of the Year,
grass horse and older female of 2004 at the California Thoroughbred Breeders
Association’s annual awards dinner at Hilton San Diego Resort on Monday night.
Owned by Jeffrey Mariani and trained by James Cassidy, Moscow Burning won or
placed in eight stakes races from 11 starts, earning $627,970 in 2004. She won
the Sheepshead Bay H. (G2) and
Fran’s Valentine S., finished second in the John C. Mabee H. (G1), Beverly Hills
H. (G2), Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf and Pro or Con H., and third in the
Flower Bowl Invitational S. (G1) and Del Mar H. (G2). Moscow Burning closed out
her four-year-old campaign with fourth-placed efforts in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1) and
Hollywood Turf Cup (G1), the latter against males.
Bred by Harris Farms, Moscow Burning is out of the stakes winning Mr. Leader
mare Burning Desire.
