Heavy rain and winds, which caused the cancellation of five racing programs
and the shortening of two others, had a negative impact on the recently concluded
Meadowlands meet. As a result, the East Rutherford, New Jersey, track reported a
significant drop in wagering during the 25-day meet.
The average on-track handle was $366,795, compared to $418,276 in 2004, while
the average total handle was $1,855,835, compared to $2,204,704 a year ago.
Total on-track wagering for the meet was $9,169,883. With the addition of
wagering at more than 350 simulcasting locations, the total overall handle was
$46,395,883.
The average on-track attendance of 4,372 represented a 6.3 percent increase
compared to 2004. Wagering declined from 12 to 15 percent compared to last year.
Joe Bravo captured his 10th Meadowlands riding title with 24 winners, while
Jason Servis earned the training crown with 15 wins. Ocean View Stables was the
leading owner with seven victories.
