Led by the Grade 1, $1 million Haskell Invitational on July 28, Monmouth Park
has announced a total stakes schedule of $6 million, including 16 graded events
worth $3.45 million for the 2013 racing season.
Among the notable changes to the calendar are the return of the Grade 3
Salvator Mile on July 6 and a shift of the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup, which will now
be contested on Haskell Day. The Grade 2 Molly Pitcher, which was contested on
Haskell Day for the first time in 2012 will once again be renewed on that day,
which now features five graded stakes events.
The Grade 3 Red Bank Stakes, which was contested on July 4 last year, will
lead off this season’s graded stakes schedule when renewed on May 18. Excluded
from the 2013 schedule are two Grade 3 turf events, the Violet for fillies and
mares and the Boiling Springs for three-year-old fillies.
Opening day for the 2013 racing season is set for May 11.
