A field of seven sophomores will line up Sunday to contest the $250,000 El
Camino Real Derby (G3) over 1 1/16 miles at Bay Meadows. CAUSE TO BELIEVE
(Maria’s Mon) should benefit from a speedy field. The Jerry Hollendorfer
trainee’s last two outings have produced BRIS Late Pace figures of 100, his last
coming in the San Miguel S. where the gray finished second after coming from last
place. He has never tried this distance before, but has the breeding to handle
the added ground. Russell Baze has the call.

WANNA RUNNER (El Corredor) has improved with every start thus far, coming
home third in the San Rafael S. (G2) last out to Brother Derek (Benchmark) and
Stevie Wonderboy (Stephen Got Even), earning a 102 BRIS Speed figure for that
effort. The Bob Baffert trainee has two starts under his belt at the El Camino
distance, winning both, and should be a presence under jockey David Flores.

A. P. WARRIOR (A.P. Indy) will be making his first start of the year since
finishing fourth to Brother Derek in the Hollywood Futurity (G1). The Eoin Harty
trainee finished a close second to that one in the Norfolk S. (G2) as well and
has a good shot to take this one at a distance which is well within his reach. Alex Solis will ride.

OBJECTIVE (El Corredor) exits a good 4 1/4-length victory in the Hill Rise S.
over the slop at Santa Anita where he earned a career-high 102 Speed rating. In
his first start at Bay Meadows, the Tom Roberts-conditioned colt finished a
well-beaten third, but has more experience since that trip and could make a run
for the board under jockey Roberto Gonzalez.

BOLD CHIEFTAIN (Chief Seattle) posted back-to-back front-running scores in
his last two. A pressured pace could give the Bill Morey trainee fits, but he
may still finish at the bottom of the exotics with a good ride by Tyler Baze.
Morey adds blinkers for the first time here.

The Hollendorfer-trained PASSIVE INCOME (High Yield) may need a race given the class check here. ACOLYTE (Victory Gallop), the second of two James McIngvale-owned
colts (Objective), is unproven at this level, just breaking his maiden last out.
