Group 2-placed stallion WAY WEST (Fr) (Gone West) was euthanized on March 26
because of laminitis, Bonnie Heath Farm announced Thursday. The
16-year-old bay, who stood at O’Sullivan Farm in West Virginia since 2004,
began his stud career in Florida and was owned by a syndicate managed by Bonnie
Heath.

Way West’s leading earner is multiple Grade 2 winner Western Pride, who
finished second in the 2002 Santa Anita H. (G1) and 2003 Pimlico Special H. (G1)
while amassing a bankroll of $1,289,929. Other notable progeny include Canadian
Grade 3 winner Flamethrowintexan and current three-year-old Gone Prospecting,
runner-up in the March 20 O. B. S. Championship S. and entered in Saturday’s
Lexington S. (G2) at Keeneland.

Trained by Christiane Head in France, Way West captured the 1994 Prix
Servanne at Evry and placed in the Prix du Gros-Chene (Fr-G2) as well as three
Group 3 events. He compiled a career mark of 18-3-2-5 with $124,155 in earnings.

Way West was bred by Wertheimer and Frere. Out of multiple French Group 3
winner Greenway (Fr) (Targowice), he hailed from the family of four-time Group 1
queen Alexander Goldrun (Gold Away [Ire]).
