A ‘Complete’ sense of deja vu in Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies
Turf

She’s Complete had a profile eerily reminiscent of Clenor, last year’s winner
of the

Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies Turf
, and the 8-5 favorite strengthened the
parallel with a rallying decision in Monday’s $100,750 renewal at
Del Mar. The Irish import
had to overcome a spot of traffic trouble in the eventful race, which witnessed
2-1 second choice Achiever’s Legacy being eased on the backstretch and 4-1 third
choice Heart of Paradise pulling up in the homestretch.

Like Clenor, She’s Complete is a daughter of Oratorio who began her career
with trainer Tommy Stack in Ireland. Neither broke their maiden in their
homeland, but they ran well in defeat. Both were subsequently purchased by Great
Friends Stable (and various partners) and shipped to the barn of Doug O’Neill.
While Clenor was a smashing maiden winner in her U.S. premiere on the Del Mar
turf, She’s Complete had to settle for a fast-closing second on Del Mar’s
Polytrack August 13.

The return to turf was sure to suit, and she shed her maiden status in this
stakes debut — with the red-hot Rafael Bejarano aboard to round out the reunion
of Team Clenor.

Sea Mona hustled to the early lead, prompted by C’Mon Sister through splits
of :23 and :46 2/5. Achiever’s Legacy was parked outside in a chasing third, but
Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer’s new recruit continued to veer out ever
more as the field advanced down the backside. Hall of Fame rider Kent Desormeaux
then eased her out of the race, and it was later reported that her saddle
slipped.

Hollendorfer’s other runner, Heart of Paradise, appeared to be well placed on
the rail in the slipstream of pacesetter Sea Mona. But after Sea Mona began to
slip away from her stalkers through six furlongs in 1:10 4/5, and swung for
home, Heart of Paradise appeared to take a bad step. Jockey Joe Talamo
immediately wrapped up on her and got her pulled up completely by midstretch.

Meanwhile, She’s Complete had been following Heart of Paradise, and Bejarano
had to act quickly to shift around her at the top of the stretch. Once finally
finding running room, She’s Complete took aim on Sea Mona, who was 2 1/2 lengths
clear at the eighth-pole. But the winner had the requisite turn of foot to run
the pacesetter down by a half-length in a final time of 1:35 4/5 for the
firm-turf mile.

Madam Aamoura also made good late headway for third, 1 3/4 lengths adrift.
Awesome Diamond, Miss Mandate and C’Mon Sister completed the order under the
wire. Heart of Paradise was able to walk off the course. Two other new imports
were scratched — Bobbi Grace and Quint — along with Diva Express.

She’s Complete, who paid $5.20 to win, now sports a mark of 4-1-2-0, $78,955.
Bred by Paul Nataf in the Emerald Isle, she RNA’d for $10,244 as a weanling at
Goffs November and later
went to Fozzy Stack for $36,404 as a
Tattersalls Ireland
yearling. Fourth to Jeanne Girl in a productive Curragh maiden on May 24, the
bay was second to Back to Base as the 1-2 favorite June 7 at Limerick. She was
then acquired by Great Friends Stable, Steven Keh (who was also involved in
Clenor), Gary Vaccaro and Bada Bing Stable.

She’s Complete is a half-sister to French stakes scorer Loutka. They were
produced by the Bluebird mare Arionella, herself a half-sister to multiple
German stakes winner Adronikus. With her third dam being the influential matron
Anatevka, She’s Complete hails from the superb family of classic-winning sire
King’s Best and 1993 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe heroine Urban Sea, the blue-hen
dam of living legends Galileo and Sea the Stars.
