Lord Robyn stays perfect on the turf
(Skip Smith) |
Top Line Racing & Alex & Joanne Lieblong’s LORD ROBYN (Robyn Dancer)
jumped to the early lead in the $100,000
Tropical Park Derby (G3) Saturday at Calder.
While the rest of the pack sat back waiting for the three-year-old gelding to
tire, jockey Eibar Coa kept him up front, where he stayed for the entirety of
the 1 1/8-mile contest. Making just his third start on the turf, the David Fawkes charge took control, leading through splits of :24, :47 4/5 and 1:10 3/5
as Medigating (Fr) (Dolphin Street [Fr]) trailed in second. As the group entered
the second turn, Fire Path (Tale of the Cat) took his place as the runner up,
but was not able to gain ground on the leader, as Lord Robyn was clocked in the
stretch drive at 1:34 3/5 before finishing off the good turf event in 1:47 in a seemingly
easy victory.
Entering the gate at 7-1, Lord Robyn paid his backers well, returning $17.60,
$11.40 and $7 while on the front end of a $200.40 exacta. Fire Path gave back $11 and
$8 at 10-1 while Crown Point (Honor Grades) paid $5.20 for his efforts at 6-1,
rounding out the nice $1,586.80. Turk’s Ransom (Comic Strip) ended the 11-3-5-12
superfecta which paid $11,899.80.
Medigating, Catch Me (Cat Thief), Safely Run (Safely’s Mark), Stormy Jim (High Yield),
2-1 favorite Exceptional Ride (Chester House), Running Surprise (Running Stag),
Starship Zim (Miesque’s Song) and Elusive Thunder (Thunder Gulch) rounded out
the order of finish. Drum Major (Dynaformer), Ginger’s Fella (Rizzi), Skip’s
Song (Unbridled’s Song) and Magna Graduate (Honor Grades) were scratched.

This is Lord Robyn’s third consecutive victory, keeping him undefeated since
switching to the turf. He improved his mark to 8-4-0-0 with earnings of $104,380
for taking his first try against graded stakes competition. Bred in Florida by Marilyn McMaster and Angelo Agnello,
the gray is out of the winning My Lady
Amelia (Real Courage) and is a half-brother to the two-year-old filly Queen of Scotts
(Impeachment).
