Grade 3 victress COTTON BLOSSOM (Broken Vow) will get the rest of the year
off after her third-place finish in last Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
Fillies (G1). The bay miss was examined by Dr. Larry Bramlage at Rood and Riddle
Veterinary Clinic in Lexington, Kentucky, and
pronounced in good condition.
“Cotton Blossom is absolutely sound, and will now be brought to Aiken
(South Carolina) in the
next few days,” said Cot Campbell, president of owner Dogwood Stable. “We will
turn her out daily and train her every other day, and then send her down to
Florida to (trainer) Todd Pletcher around January 15.”
Cotton Blossom broke her maiden in her June 16 debut at Monmouth Park before
capturing the Schuylerville S. (G3) at Saratoga. A second in the Spinaway S.
(G1) and a close fourth in the Alcibiades S. (G2) earned the juvenile lass a
place in the Breeders’ Cup field.
“We were proud of her effort in the Breeders’ Cup race, especially since she
took the overland route on a day that was playing fast on the rail,” Campbell
continued. “She was only beaten 2 3/4 lengths for all the money and indicated to
us that she will relish added distances in her three-year-old year.”
Campbell said that Cotton Blossom would point for the seven-furlong Forward Gal S.
(G2) at Gulfstream Park on March 10, and then go on to Keeneland and Churchill Downs for the
Ashland S. (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1). The filly will be trained by Dogwood
farm trainer Ron Stevens in Aiken.
