New Zealand Bloodstock Ltd. concluded its two-day Ready to Run Sale of
Two-Year-Olds with new records for gross receipts, average and median. A total
of 197 juveniles were reported as sold for a turnover of NZ$9,866,750, a 10
percent increase on 2005, despite fewer horses being sold. The average of
NZ$50,085 was better by 15 percent versus a year ago, while the median leapt by
43 percent to NZ$40,000 from NZ$28,000.

“To see such a significant increase in turnover with fewer horses sold is a
fantastic result for this sale and a huge credit to this year’s vendors,” NZB
Marketing Manager Petrea Vela said. “The international buying bench was as
strong as we have ever seen here, and we are particularly pleased with the
significant participation from Singapore and Hong Kong buyers which underpinned
the sale.”

A colt by Galileo (Ire) topped the event, falling to Hong Kong-based
conditioner Michael Chang for NZ$350,000. The Australian-bred gray colt was
consigned by Lyndhurst Stud. It is the second highest price ever achieved at
this auction, topped only by the NZ$420,000 paid for a colt by Zabeel at last
year’s sale.
