CHANGE UP (Distorted Humor), who cruised to a two-length victory in the
Pocahontas S. (G3), looks like a standout in Saturday’s Golden Rod S. (G2) at
Churchill Downs. The Steve Flint-trained chestnut stalked the early pace from
the outside before completing the one-mile Pocahontas in 1:35 4/5 and gets a
rider change to John Velazquez. In her prior starts, Change Up defeated eventual Spinaway S. (G1)
queen Appealing Zophie (Successful Appeal) in the Mountaineer Juvenile Fillies
S. and then was compromised in a speed duel on a sloppy track in the
Arlington-Washington Lassie S. (G3). She has excellent early speed and should be
hard to deny in this 1 1/16-mile contest.
LADY JOANNE (Orientate), a closer trained by Carl Nafzger, finished well for
third in the Pocahontas after breaking her maiden impressively by a widening 6
1/2 lengths on Polytrack at Keeneland. The bay filly has been working bullets of
late and could complete the exacta.
STELLAS NEW GROOVE (Victory Gallop) broke her maiden first out in a fast time
at Arlington Park, then finished a close fourth against winners going 1 1/16
miles on Polytrack at Keeneland. She rates our sleeper at a price.
Stakes-placed HIGH HEELS (E Dubai) finally got her picture taken in the mud
last out and figures to get a ground-saving trip on the fence. She could earn a
slice. WELLOFAPRIZE (Pure Prize) defeated winners going two turns on Polytrack
at Keeneland in her latest and could come running late for a minor prize.
The speedy COHIBA MISS (Cat Thief) has not been seen since winning the
Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies S. at Turfway Park. The chestnut likely will
battle for the early lead, but we’re going to take a stand against. The D. Wayne
Lukas-trained TIME’S MISTRESS (Mr. Greeley) defeated winners going seven
furlongs here last out but would have to improve to factor.
LITTLEBITABLING (Carson City), a half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Too
Much Bling (Rubiano), is a stakes winner against sister Ohio-breds. She
will get tested for class with these. PRO PINK (Touch Gold) will make her fifth
straight graded stakes start in this spot but has poor form and is hard to
recommend. LADY CORREDOR (El Corredor) broke her maiden at a price last out and
will have to overcome the far outside post position.
