Sweet Catomine tops Oaks Future

Juvenile filly champion SWEET CATOMINE (Storm Cat), a 3 3/4-length
winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), is the 4-1 favorite
on the morning line for Pool 1 of the 2005 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager,
which runs Thursday-Sunday along with the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
The once-beaten lass opened her sophomore campaign with a facile score
in the Santa Ysabel S. (G3) and is expected to make her next start in
the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) on March 13.

Trainer Julio Canani hasn’t counted out an attempt against males if
Sweet Catomine wins the Santa Anita Oaks, and the bay is listed in Pool
1 of both the Derby and Oaks Future wager.

“Sweet Catomine was a dominant champion at two and ran faster than
her male counterparts on Breeders’ Cup Day at Lone Star Park, so she is
a very deserving favorite in Pool 1 of the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager,”
Churchill Oddsmaker Mike Battaglia said. “There are some other promising
fillies among the betting interests in the wager’s opening pool, but
they have yet to approach the level of Sweet Catomine to this point.”

Sweet Catomine’s top rivals include Hollywood Starlet (G1) heroine
SPLENDID BLENDED (Unbridled’s Song), who could also make her next
appearance in the Santa Anita Oaks. The Neil Drysdale-trained chestnut
is listed 10-1 in Pool 1 of the Oaks Future. The second choice on the
morning line is the mutuel field at 5-1.
