Manorwood Stables, S. Goldfarb, C.L. Carney and I. Davis’ CATIVA (Sir Cat)
took command Saturday nearing the half-way mark and held on to win the
$200,000 Barbara Fritchie H. (G2) at Laurel Park. The Richard Dutrow charge broke
well and rated through the first fraction of :23 just behind
even-money favorite Bear Fan (Pine Bluff). The five-year-old mare took control
shortly thereafter, moving to the outside and running splits of :46 1/5 and 1:11
on the fast track before pulling a way to a 2 1/4-length victory, finishing the
seven-furlong event in 1:23 3/5 under Edgar Prado.
Sent of at 5-1, Cativa returned $13, $6.60 and $4.80 while leading exotics of
$61.80 (exacta) and $334 (trifecta). Sensibly Chic (Distorted Humor) brought up
second paying $4 and $3.60 for her efforts at nearly 5-2 while Simaril (Diamond)
held on by a neck to earn third at 12-1, returning $4.80. Josh’s Madelyn (Quiet
American) ended the 8-1-2-4 superfecta ($1) which paid $887.80.
Wallop (Grand Slam), Spectacular Moon (Migrating Moon), Santa Croce (Saint
Ballado), Bear Fan, Richetta (Polish Numbers) and Lavender Lass (Skip Trial)
rounded out the order of finish.
Cativa scored her first stakes victory in this one and has won seven of her last
nine, including the three prior to Saturday. She now shows a line of 18-10-2-1 with earnings of $363,710. Bred in Kentucky by
Contention Partnership, the dark bay mare is out of Sinister Victory (Vice
Regent) and is a half-sister to the two-year-old filly Sinister Deance and an
unnamed yearling colt, both by Pikepass.
