Nine sophomore fillies will contest Saturday’s $150,000 Comely S. (G2) at Aqueduct and
we’re going with LAST TOOTS (Concern), a female version of last year’s Kentucky
Derby (G1) winner, Smarty Jones. The bay is owned by Someday Farm, trained by
John Servis, piloted by Stewart Elliot and based in Philadelphia Park – all the
same connections of the dual classic hero. This is her graded stakes bow and it
appears Servis and the Chapmans decided to try this level at the perfect time.
Last Toots has won her last two starts, a straight maiden and a first-level
allowance, by a combined 23 3/4 lengths, and seems in top form for this one.
She’ll attempt to go right out to the front, and it could be tough to catch this promising
filly.

ACEY DEUCEY (Abaginone) ran a good second last out in the Cicada S. (G3) and
may be the class of the field. The bay won the Dearly Precious S. two back over
the Big A’s inner dirt, suggesting she may relish the main track. Conditioned by
John Morrison, Acey Deucey has never run the one-mile Comely distance, but she
is a confirmed closer and should enjoy the stretch out. We’ll have her in all
levels of the exotics.

Mark Hennig will saddle PLEASANT CHIMES (Pleasant Tap) for the Comely. The
bay finished fourth last time in the Bonnie Miss S. (G2), her first career
defeat, and we’ll have to use her with Pablo Fragoso in the irons.

SEEKING THE ANTE (Seeking the Gold) enters off an impressive allowance win
after stumbling at the start of the race. The John Kimmel trainee
finished second in the East View S. last December while she was still a maiden
after stumbling at the start,
and brings a two-race win streak into this contest. She easily rates our sleeper
choice.

BRIGHT MAHOGANY (Bright Launch) gets Lasix for her U.S. debut and has never
finished worse than second in five career starts. We’ll use the Gary Contessa
trainee on the bottom of the gimmicks.

The Timothy Hills-trained TOLL TAKER (Bernstein) has not been in the same top
form since winning the Astarita S. (G3) last year, and we’ll have to give the
bay a race. SECRETS GALORE (Honour and Glory) seems a level below these and
we’ll just watch for now. QUITE A RUCKUS (Richter Scale) ran huge last out against optional-claiming
company but steps up here, and we’ll let the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee beat us.
MERRILL GOLD (Gold Fever) was claimed prior to her last outing and is probably a class below
these.
