Hip No. 38, a colt by A.P. Indy out of Grade 1 heroine Got Koko (Signal Tap),
sold for the top price of $675,000 at Monday’s opening session of the Ocala
Breeders’ Sales Company’s Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Consigned by M.
Neal Sims, agent, the bay was purchased by John Ferguson Bloodstock.

The January 13 juvenile is the second foal from Got Koko, who
swept the La Canada series at Santa Anita in 2003. In addition to her victories
in the La Brea S. (G1), El Encino S. (G2) and La Canada S. (G2), she also
captured the Lady’s Secret H. (G2) and Torrey Pines S. Got Koko’s stakes
placings include the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) and Santa Monica H. (G1), and
she retired with a record of 15-7-1-4 and $960,946 in earnings.

The Kentucky-bred colt, who brought $175,000 as a Keeneland September
yearling, worked one furlong in :10 2/5 at the first under tack show.

A colt by Sky Mesa was the next most expensive, going to John C. Oxley for
$240,000. The dark bay, who toured the ring as Hip 105, was offered by Casey
Newick, agent.

The New York-bred with the January 25 birthday is out of the winning Dr. Blum
mare Impulse Shopper, a half-sister to six-time stakes victress Shopping for
Love (Not for Love) and stakes scorer Shoppers Gold (Gold Seam).

A $9,000 RNA at Fasig-Tipton New York last August, the two-year-old drilled
one furlong in :10 3/5 on Wednesday.

For the day, 210 horses brought a total of $5,477,500, an increase of 12.5
percent from last year’s opener, when 188 horses grossed $4,867,400. The average
price crept up slightly, from $25,890 to $26,083, while the median price fell
11.1 percent, from $18,000 to $16,000.

The buyback percentage was 23.9 percent, compared to 29.8 percent a year ago.
